Vacation Bible School

At the beginning of the summer break, Christ Lutheran Church and Emmanuel Episcopal organize an annual three-day Vacation Bible School followed by a weekend service project for kids ages 3-12. After having Emmanuel graciously host VBS for the past two years, Christ Lutheran is excited to be hosting again in 2020!
The VBS theme and activities are original and developed by a committee made up of members from both congregations who meet weekly for several months prior to the event. This takes a lot of work, but it is always interesting and draws on the varied talents of individual members.
Last year’s theme was “May I have your attention, please.” The verses we looked at were Jonah and the Whale, Paul’s conversion at Damascus, and the Vine and Branches (John 15:25).
For every VBS, following an opening that usually includes an original puppet show written for the event, kids are led to different activities by adult and youth “shepherds.” Activities that the kids participate in include “story,” “crafts,” “service,” “games,” “snack” and “music.” Each activity is thematic, reflecting the verse of that day.
We are proud to say that for the past several years we have been able to provide VBS for free, relying on a combination of Thrivant Grants, participant donations and funds allocated to youth from each of our congregations. We hope to keep it this way!!
