August 14, 2016. Have you ever given up on God? Guest pastor Tom Schoenherr preaches today, during the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, on Hebrews 12:1-2 about running the race marked out for us, with our eyes fixed on Jesus who is the pioneer and perfecter of faith. But in the Greek, the word for race also means struggle. Sometimes when bad things happen to us or to our loved ones, we find it difficult to stay in the race, to keep struggling in the faith. We find it hard to keep believing. Why do bad things happen to good people? When they do, turning away from God may seem easier. But then we’re struggling alone. We need to know that God doesn’t cause bad things to happen. But he is there for us in moments of despair, he weeps with us, and he sends wonderful people to help us, so that we can keep running the race.
