Room at the Inn

We partner with First Congregational Church in Webster Groves to help feed and house up to 14 homeless individuals or family members from Room at the Inn, sponsored by the Sisters of Divine Providence in Bridgeton.  This happens on the fourth Friday and Saturday of the month, with Christ Lutheran Church contributing in January, March, May, July, September, and November, helping to pickup clients on Friday evening, sharing dinner with them, entertaining and acting as “innkeepers,” serving breakfast in the morning, and returning them to the day center in Bridgeton.  During the day the children go to their normal school and the adults either go to work (some are employed), go to class, or look for employment.

This is an opportunity for a “hands-on” experience to help homeless families, generally women and children, to adjust to a change of environment as they learn more about the cause of and remedies for this homelessness, and educate themselves in order to find employment and ultimately provide for their new future. Volunteers are needed from both Christ Lutheran and First Congregational Church to provide transportation to and from the Bridgeton campus, meals on Friday night and Saturday morning, evening snacks, folks to serve as “innkeepers” for the night, and to launder the bedclothes.  The meals would be prepared and served by volunteers either by cooking on-site, or preparing the dishes at home, to be reheated.  First Congregational always serves as the host site, since they have been set up for this for some years.

For more information and/or to volunteer, please look for the sign up sheet in the Fellowship hall.  If you are unable to volunteer, and wish to make a green envelope gift, make your check payable to Christ Lutheran Church, with “Room at the Inn” on the memo line. Thanks and God bless you.  When we help others, we receive more than we give.
